The Punter: Poker the ace card in gambling future

Betting to make more headlines

By Robert Fenton
20 July 2005

The explosion in gambling in the last six years has been phenomenal.

The changing face of this form of entertainment is mushrooming to such an extent that there are plans for a new national daily sports paper to rival the Racing Post.

It will be called 'The Sportsman' and will come on line just before the Cheltenham Festival next March.

Jeremy Deedes, former chief executive of the Telegraph Group, is heading the venture.

"This is not a sports paper but a betting newspaper," he said, " And it will provide all the statistics and information needed to bet on racing, golf or whatever."

Interesting to look at recent stats provided by The Business of Gambling which shows that the total punted in 1998 in the UK, was £84.8 billion. That rose to £131.4 billion in 2004 - an increase of 40 per cent.

And a warning to all those in the racing industry - the expansion is coming at a cost to horse racing which has seen its market share fall dramatically in that time from 14 per cent to around 10 per cent.

But the fastest growth is in on-line gambling. It accouts for four per cent of the market but that picture will change as it expands at 40 per cent per annum.

Sports betting takes up 45 per cent of the on-line pool with gaming (casinos) around 32 per cent. But it's predicted that on-line poker will outstrip both in less that three years time as the frenzy of sites continue.

Poker is now being hyped up in newspapers and televison and the feats of Belfast-born Adam Black in scooping £1m in Las Vegas in the World Series of Poker tournament and Aussie Jo Hachem who walked away with £4.28m - the biggest prize in poker history - will add to the allure.

Only last year, there were 1.5m on-line players throughout the world.

By 2008, it is forecast there will b 7.7m players spending in the region of £3.3 billion.

PBL gets permission to expand gambling empire

The Victorian Government has given media and gaming company PBL permission to expand its Crown Casino brand.

Under the deal, the casino will have to comply with more stringent oversight by the regulator and spend $170 million on improvements to the casino over five years.

In exchange, PBL will be able to use the Crown brand name for other businesses besides its Melbourne casino.

Melbourne will be PBL's international gaming headquarters.

Gaming Minister John Pandazopoulos says Crown needs to keep investing in the venue.

"It's about the international feel and look of the casino and we were obviously wanting to make sure that they are, at the end of the day that's Crown land there, and at the end of the agreement it all comes back theoretically to the state," he said.

"It's important that they invest in that international feel to be part of an international market."

Mr Pandazopoulos says Victoria will benefit as the Crown name grows.

"Of course the Crown brand is more than casino, it's an entertainment complex, it's the hotels," he said.

"We think that brand value being promoted a bit more offshore does benefit people in Victoria because people associate that with Melbourne."

Internet Sweepstakes Next Video Gambling Battleground

By Our Partners at the Las Vegas Sun

ROCK HILL, South Carolina -- Internet sweepstakes terminals in York County businesses are posing a new problem for authorities in the state's battle against the video gaming industry.

The State Law Enforcement Division recently seized several sweepstakes terminals and other equipment from three York County businesses, the first such seizures in South Carolina.

The terminals, which are computers connected to the Internet, are not illegal. But SLED says state gambling laws were violated because agents paid to play the games; the terminals offered a game of chance; and the agents received cash prizes or reimbursements to their debit cards.

An attorney for the Internet sweepstakes company said the games are legal because a payment isn't required to play. That makes the game a sweepstakes instead of a lottery, and sweepstakes are legal, said Columbia attorney Jim Griffin.

Online Gambling Looks A Good Business Bet

By James Tapsfield, PA

Britons have always been fond of a flutter – whether it be on sporting events such as the Grand National and FA Cup Final, or the outcome of the general election.

But it seems the internet age is pushing our love for gambling to a whole new level.

Every day more Brits are logging on to websites offering the opportunity to try your luck, and their eagerness to take a chance has made online gambling one of the fastest-growing industries in the world.

PartyGaming, whose PartyPoker.com online poker game room has amassed more than one million users since 2001, announced plans for a flotation on the London Stock Exchange today that would value the company at up to US 10 billion (£5.5 billion).

Analysts estimate that revenues from the industry globally have doubled over the past three years to US 9 billion (£5 billion). Some predict that within a decade it could be worth US 125 billion (£69 billion).

Figures like that are sure to put a smile on the face of management and investors, but not everyone is convinced that the explosion in internet gambling is a good thing.

A spokesman for help group Gamblers Anonymous said it was beginning to receive calls from people who had become addicted to betting over the web.

He said: “We’re starting to come across people who have got hooked online. It’s not a high proportion of the calls we get currently, but it is something we’ve noticed as being on the increase.”

Although GA does not think online gambling is an intrinsically bad thing, it does raise serious concerns for those who might be vulnerable to addiction, according to the spokesman.

“The internet removes some of the obstacles that society puts in front of people to stop them doing things.

“If you’re a blue-collar worker and live in a local community you’re unlikely to go into a bookies and bang £500 on a horse.

“Other people would see you and it might not be the way you’d want to be viewed.

“But if you can do it in your own home it’s much easier. I think the internet makes it much easier for people to start gambling.”

Mark Griffiths, Professor of Gambling Studies at Nottingham Trent University, agrees.

He says: “Remote forms of gambling, such as online, interactive TV and over mobile phones, do present challenges.

“It’s very convenient – if you have the time you can do it all day, every day, whereas you couldn’t do that in the bookies.”

Another problem is the lack of “gatekeepers”, according to Prof Griffiths.

“If I was drunk or a minor and walked into a casino they would not let me gamble. But there aren’t those checks online.”

He added that people were often tempted to bet more because they were playing with “virtual money” rather than hard cash.

However, Wes Himes from the Interactive Gaming Gambling and Betting Association – which speaks on behalf of the trade – said companies took their responsibilities to players seriously.

“People use credit cards every day, and that is virtual money.

“All our members take measures to monitor their sites, and alert people to how long they have played and how much they have spent.

“But obviously people need to apply their own personal restraint.”

According to Mr Himes, the huge growth of the online betting sectors is mainly due to new customers being brought in rather than people moving over from the traditional industry.

“From the evidence we’ve seen the whole pie seems to be getting bigger. If you look at the UK the market’s been growing steadily over the last few years.

“We haven’t seen a shift of people’s money from the old industry to the new.”

Some of the most popular sites feature poker games and betting exchanges where people can cut out the bookies by gambling directly with fellow punters. Online accounts with high-street bookmakers have also proved extremely popular.

One of the most striking aspects about the rise of remote gambling is the way it has attracted women.

Prof Griffiths said he thought companies tended to overestimate the number of women using sites, but there was no doubt that far more were gambling over the web than had ever used the traditional industry.

“The internet is a gender-neutral environment.

“Most women don’t want to go into betting shops, which are male dominated. But in online poker games women can pretend to be men and men can pretend to be women.

“If you’re a housewife and you’ve got a few hours in the afternoon while your child’s asleep, it fits into that kind of schedule.”

Mr Himes said that in some online gambling areas women made up 50 per cent of users.

“Women tend to go with games they are familiar with such as bingo, or easy games such as blackjack,” he said.

“The internet has a whole different demographic profile.”

The gambling industry has staked a great deal on the web’s ability to bring in new customers willing to take a chance.

But with revenues already increasing exponentially, and more households connecting to the internet every day, it looks like the future of online gambling could be the only genuine dead cert out there.

Casino Gambling Tips for Online Gambling

Casino gambling tips for the Internet are good to know
because betting at an online casino is a little different
from a land based casino. For one when playing slots, how
can you tell if the odds online are good or not? Do you know
what the casino requires for play before cashing out
winnings? When selecting to play over the Internet for the
first time you should keep the following in mind:

Read payout percentage reports for the best odds

PriceWaterhouseCoopers is the prominent accountant in the
field of analyzing the game odds for online casinos. These
can be viewed for separate casinos by scrolling to the
bottom and clicking on the PriceWaterhouseCoopers logo. You
may have to click on the report to enlarge it, but there you
can see the percentages for slots, table games and other
areas in which the casino has games. There are reports for
each month of operation and if the slots are 96% and above,
these odds are better than in Las Vegas. Another firm is The
Online Players Association that performs the same auditing
and checks.

Terms and Conditions

All casinos are different and one thing that separates them
is the Terms and Conditions for which they operate. Here you
can find out the details for cashing out if you take them up
on bonuses. Some will give you a high percentage bonus, but
may want 25X play before you cash out. Unless these are
games that you love to play you may want to find somewhere
else to take your chances. Reviewing this policy can help
you to avoid unnecessary issues.

Study Conditions for Cashing Out

Making a killing is the ultimate goal with any casino, so
when the getting is good and you know it is time to get out,
keep in mind how the process works by reading the Terms and
Conditions. This can help you to get out at a profit. If the
casino wants so much action for the bonus they gave you,
make sure you know how much they want. That way, when you
hit the crossover point and you feel the action is slowing
down, you can take the money and run! Turning $100.00 into a
$1000.00 and losing it because you did not know when you met
the casino's conditions for cash out is a bad feeling.

Have a daily goal in mind

Write down how much you want to gamble with each day. For
example, if your $100.00 deposit and the casino match bonus
of 100% gives you $200.00 total, then spread it out over 2
to 3 sessions. Sometimes if you gamble $75.00 and lose it in
the morning, trying again tomorrow may bring you luck. BUT
if you blow it all at once, you lose the future opportunity
to hit that winning streak that may be around the corner.

Watch your bankroll!
Remember to place a limit on what you will spend! To reflect
on the previous sentence, if you blow everything all at
once, you miss the future opportunity to hit a potential
winning streak. On top of that gambling should be fun,
entertaining and profitable. It should not take money from
your bills or necessities (or your spouse).

How to make $1000 in one day playing ROULETTE

Roulette Tips and Tricks !
Roulette is the oldest of all the casino games. A roulette wheel is round and has 38 separately numbered pockets in which the rotating ball may land. The numbers change back and forth between red and black; the first red number is number one. 0 and 00 are both green. If a player bets on a single number, he is paid 35 to 1. This means that the casino has the advantage of 2 out of every 38 spins. So, roulette, like any other gaming event must rely on both luck and strategy.

BETS:
You may bet on two numbers by placing your chip (or chips) on the line between two numbers such as 2 and 3. Payment is 17 to 1.

You may bet on four numbers by placing your bet between 4 numbers such as 2, 3, 5, 6 and upon winning be paid 8 to 1.

You may bet on three numbers by placing a chip on the transversal such as 1, 2, 3 by placing the chip on the outer line of 1. Payment is 11 to 1.

You may bet on five numbers only in one set; they are 0, 00, 1, 2, 3. Since 31 is not divisible by 5 it pays only 6 to 1.

You may bet on six numbers by placing your chip on two transversals, such as the outer edge of numbers 7 and 10 to cover numbers 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12. This bet pays 5 to 1.

You may bet on 12 numbers by placing your bet on the 2to1 space at the end of the table and play 1, 4, 7, 10,13, 16, 19, 22, 25, 28, 31, 34 or either of the other two rows of numbers; or by placing your chip in 1st 12, 2nd 12, or 3rd 12. Each bet pays 2 to 1.

You may bet on 18 numbers by placing your bet on either a color spot - red or black, on an even or odd spot, or on 1 to 18, or 19 to 36. Pays 1 to 1.

Seem simple enough? Well it is quite easy. Just wait till a spin has been completed and all bettors have been paid and then place your bet.

The following section shows you five simple systems you may want to use to win at roulette.

Never bet more than you can afford to lose, and always quit when you have won as much as you set out to win - such as double your stake.

There are table minimums and maximums at all casinos and most casinos have different tables with different amounts. *Each posted on the table.

A typical minimum is 25 cents per bet with a 75 cent minimum per spin of the wheel. This covers bets on numbers only *-* other bets such as 1st 12 etc. will have a $1 minimum.

Now, read and learn each system detailed below before you try any of them at a casino - pick one or two you want to try.

SYSTEM ONE:

This is a simple game of colors. Black and red. This has also been called a suckers bet and an absolutely terrible system because it does not go with the odds. However, it has consistently won for both myself and a large number of others. Because 1/2 of the numbers are red, and 1/2 black ( minus of course the casino advantage of 0 of 00 ) a bet on a red or black number coming up has a 50-50 chance of winning. If you were able to accurately pick the correct color every-other spin, you would break even, minus 2 in every 38 spins ( for 0, 00 ). With this in mind, try the following:

Bet on a color. If you win, take your winning and leave your original bet for the next spin. ( A good idea is to start at $1 if you are interested in playing for a long period of time and maybe winning some money. You can bet more such as $3 to $5 if you can afford it and are hoping to win some big money ). If you lose, double your bet. If you continue to lose you may wish to continue doubling your bet, or quit and take the lose. Then start over again, as long as you win, take your winnings and leave your original bet.

Remember, you ALWAYS have the same odds of your bet winning even if the other color has come up 100 times in a row. I have had nights when I never lost more than 3 straight times, but I have also seen the same color come up 12 straight times.

Online Poker Satellites - How to Turn as Little as $1

What do Dr. Vic Fey, an obstetrician from Clinton, Oklahoma,
and Erick Brenes, a farmer from Costa Rica have in common?
They both made it to the final table of The World Poker
Tour's Aruba Poker Classic. And what makes it more
remarkable is they won their $6,000 buy-in and the trip to
Aruba by playing a $27 satellite tournament at the online
poker room, Ultimate Bet. Neither of these men are
professional poker players but at the end of the tournament
Vic Fey finished in 6th place and won $105,000 and Erick
Brenes finished in first and went home to Costa Rica
$1,417,000 richer. Not bad for a $27 investment.

What are satellites and how do they work? Basically a
satellite is a way to enter a major tournament and play for
big money without having to pay the large buy-in required.
For example, the buy-in for the World Series of Poker (WSOP)
is $10,000. An on-line poker room could sponser a tournament
with a $1,350 buy-in (they will also charge somewhere around
9-10% for a registration fee). For every 10 players in the
tournament there would be a prize pool of $13,500, enough
for the single buy-in to the WSOP and some extra for
spending money. So for a $1,350 you could win your entry to
the major tournament. If there are 100 players then the
players who finish in one of the top 10 positions would be
on their way to Las Vegas and a chance at $10,000,000, the
estimated top prize in this years tournament.

A thousand dollars is still a little steep if you ask me but
you're dying to play in the WSOP. So you go to an online
poker site like Royal Vegas Poker. There, they have a way
for you to make it to the World Series for as little as $1.
It takes six steps and works like this:

Step 1: You pay a $1 buy-in and a $.10 registration fee. You
play against ten other players. If you come in first or
second you've made it to step two.

Step 2: You enter this tournament by either coming in first
or second in step 1 or by directly buying in for $5 + $0.50.
Come in first or second and you move on to step three. Come
in third and you get to play level 2 again free.

Step 3: Same deal. Enter by placing 1st or 2nd in the
previous step or buy-in for $22.50 + $2.25. The final 2
players get free entry to step four and third place lets you
repeat step 3 and pays you $2.75.

Step 4: The buy-in for this level is $100 + $10. Come in
first or second and go to step 5. Come in third and play
step 4 over again.

Step 5: If you happen to have $450 + $45 you can buy-in to
this level. If you've were lucky enough to come in 1st or
2nd the previous step, it costs you nothing. The first two
finishers go to the final step, third place gets to play
step 5 again.

Step 6: You've made it to the final step. Of course you can
just cough up the $1,350 + $135 to play in this game or you
might have gotten here all the way from step one for $1. In
either case, finish 1st in this ten player table and you're
on your way to the WSOP. Come in 2nd and you win $1,000.

This is just one example of an on-line poker site's roadmap
to the WSOP. At FullTilt poker you can get there for as
little as $4. And they have a promotion in which if you gain
entry to the tournament through their site and win the $10
Million at the WSOP, they will match it with an additional
$10 Million.

Party Poker has satellites starting at $9,InterPoker can get
you there for $10, and UltimateBet has games for as little
as $3.

There are even some sites where you can gain entry through
freerolls (tournaments with no entry fees).

There are all sorts of tournaments like this at many
different online poker sites and they all follow the same
basic pattern. You buy-in at a low level to win entry into a
higher level tournament. I narrowly missed making it to the
PartyPoker millions tournament with a $10,000 buy-in and a
prize pool of $7.5 Million. For $6 I worked my way up to the
finals where I needed to come in one of the top 4 positions.
Unfortunately I finished 9th, but there's always next year.
But boy, did I get a lot of entertainment and excitement for
my $6.

So if you're looking to be the next poker star and you don't
want to put down $10,000 to get in the game, check out the
different online sites and see if you can turn $1 into a
million.

Tournament Blackjack and the Art of Sabotage

by Shawn Tinling

I was recently invited to play in the Daily Invitational Blackjack Tournament at Foxwoods in Connecticut. Tournament blackjack differs a great deal from the regular version, and my tournament strategy would - at best - be considered a work-in-progress. I've played in a few in the past, though, and had a lot of fun time and again, so I headed up to 'The Woods' for the day.

Their tournament structure is pretty straight-forward. Each player begins each round with 5,000 in tournament chips, and a preliminary round is played. If a player has the most chips at their table after 25 hands he advances to the semifinals. In the semis, the player with the most chips after 25 hands goes to the final table. At the final table everyone's in the money; the player with the most chips after 25 more hands would win $5,000 in cash.

I had just barely squeaked by in the preliminary round to win my session. Me and two other players were neck-neck-and-neck going into the final few hands. One of the ladies I was up against busted out with one hand to go, while I got a blackjack on my big bet, pulling me ahead with a decent chip lead. It came down to my opponent going all-in and needing to win her hand to beat me out for the session.

She had a hard 14 against a dealer's ace - big trouble. She had practically no choice but to hit as I helplessly stood there holding my breath. I chanted to myself, "Break! Break! Break," and the dealer delivered my opponent the news. Nine. Game over.

I was the only finisher for that session with about 2,700 in chips. A pretty ugly session all in all, but a win's a win. That session was the kind of nail-biter that left me tingling all over, and it's that rush that brings be back with every invite they send me. That, and the fact that they tend to draw spectators is pretty nice, too!

My semifinal round would turn out to be the most memorable. It seems I wasn't quite done with the ugly winning just yet.

Many tournament strategists recommend players start out conservatively for the round. Most of us weren't very conservative, but we weren't very aggressive, either. I started betting 700-900 a hand and cards were going my way the first several hands. Blackjacks were dropping right in front of me, and got some really good double down hands. I just went with the flow, and before long I had a lead of about 4,000 on the nearest contender. The other players had some catching up to do, so at this point, I decided to try for a little fun, hopefully at my opponents' expense.

I started to play low - betting smaller than the others with the hope that everyone loses the hand. I bet the minimum of 100 while the others went for 1000-1500 to catch up to me. It wasn't so much about me winning or losing the hand since I only bet 100. If the other players lost, it would increase my chip lead. One hand I had a hard 16 versus the dealer's 6. In a regular live game, of course, no one would EVER even think of touching the hand. I decided to hit - amid gasps and groans from the other contestants, of course - and busted with 26.

It turns out, that just as I was hoping, I 'took the dealer's bust card' and 'sabotaged' the hand. If I left my hand alone like I very well should have, the dealer would've broke and everyone would've won. Instead she drew to 20 and everyone lost. My opponents were clearly rattled and a sea of dirty looks shot my way.

Next hand, I got an 11 against a 6. Again, I had a 100 bet so I was more focused on the others losing. I didn't double down the hand. I didn't even hit the hand. I decided to stay on the 11. The ensuing Jack that was meant for me helped the dealer make a tidy 21. Everyone lost again, and all of a sudden I had a 9,000 point chip lead. Everyone is now furious!

I had such a large chip lead at that point, I practically cruised through the rest of the session. I won the session by 11,000 points and made it to the final table, but not before getting a tongue lashing from one of my opponents.

"I've never seen anyone play the way you did."

"What? Are you talking about that 'sixteen versus six' hand?"

"Yeah. That was really, really nasty. Really nasty! You don't play much, do you?"

"Oh, I play all the time."

"You'd get beaten up [at the regular tables] if you played like that."

"Of course I would. I would never play like that regularly."

From there she went into this whole sob story about "doing these tournaments to have a good time" and that I "ruined the fun for her."

"Look, this is a tournament. A tournament that's paying five grand in cash money to the winner! So, I did what I had to do to win, and now I'm off to the finals. Trust me, it was nothing personal."

In all fairness, let me stress that the 'sabotage' tactic doesn't really work, at least not in the long run. Any reputable blackjack player knows a 'saboteur' is just as likely to hurt the table than he is to help it. A sad fact of the matter is that the average blackjack player is bogged down in superstition - 'taking the dealer's bust card' is just one of dozens of them - so the whole idea of sabotaging hands is merely a psychological trick.

If you play low and try to rattle 'the flow of the cards' (I'll go into 'card flow' and all the other blackjack superstitions at another time) more often than not one of two things will happen. You 'save' the table with your bad play, and your opponents will think "OK, he's an idiot, but I'm not mad at him because he made me win." Or, if you kill the table, you're right where you want to be - inside your opponents' heads.

An observation I've made through several years at the tables is that anger and frustration can rattle even the most disciplined player. Many times - as was the case with my opponents this particular day - this causes them to bet more aggressively than they probably should, and make riskier double down plays and splits to offset your earlier 'mistake,' which usually paves the way to self-destruction. On the last hand that sealed the fate of my nearest rival in the semis, She doubled down a 7 against a dealer's 7 and lost it all.

If a down-and-dirty approach to gambling is your cup of tea, perhaps you should give this strategy a shot.

In case you were wondering, I went on to finish in 5th place for the tournament.

Until next time, best of luck to you in the casinos, and in life.

Poker

by: Tony Karabetsos

Americans play Poker in many places such as in casino card rooms, online and at home. It is estimated over $170 million in bets are made through online casinos everyday and this figure may double by 2006.

Poker has been a popular card game for years, possibly the most popular casino game. Nowadays, most of the online casinos have some form of Poker. Even television has jumped on the bandwagon with shows such is the World Series of Poker and Hollywood Celebrity Poker just to name a few. There are all kinds of Poker tournaments played almost everywhere in world.

A new magazine, “Bluff Magazine” has been created for online Poker lovers. It is very popular especially with the younger generation.

Poker, just like every other game, requires skills in order to play. Basic know how is not enough. It is imperative to develop strategy if you want to win. This is when a good casino portal comes in, like CasinoCafe.com or our sister site GamblingCove.com. Both offer poker site reviews, tips and tutorials on how to play poker.

Actually, some feel it is easier to play at an online casino; the reason being you don’t face the other players. Your opponents can’t see your expressions which makes it difficult to perseive your moves.

There’s no doubt in my mind that online casinos have played a big role in the Poker explosion. Let’s face it, poker is BIG, it’s getting bigger everyday and it’s here to stay.

HAPPY BETTING!

Poker Scalping

I'm not sure if Poker Scalping is a recognised term for what I'm about to explain, but for me it sums up a strategy used by a lot of professional gamblers.

That strategy in a nutshell is that of preying on new and vulnerable poker players in order to win consistent hourly wages from playing poker.

Every day thousands of bad poker plays go online at the nets largest poker site and play badly and lose their money. That money is won not just by good poker players but also by poker players who play systematically. That is they play tight they know their odds and they play business like.

These professional players are winning and winning big with some making regular six figure salaries year in and year out.

There is an unlimited supply of bad players to win from and more are added daily. All you have to do is to have a strategy and some tools.

Now maybe "preying on new players" is strong language, but what you have to keep in mind is that these players will lose to somebody and that while they are losing they are getting an education. And to be honest if you dive in to a financial transaction without any real knowledge of what you're doing, other than what you have seen on TV then you have to expect to pay for your education.

There are an unlimited number of players and more come online everyday and the added bonus is that nobody cares if you are winning. No casino heavy looking over your shoulder, no bookmaker cutting your bets. The casino takes a rake from everything you win and all they care about is that you play, they want you playing at their tables.

So how do you get some of this action. Well you need to make sure that you aren't one of the TV poker suckers. You need an education.

Your first step to earning regular poker income is to join a poker room and spend a little time familiarising yourself with the set up, get familiar with the software, watch some games and play some free games.

Your next step is to formulate a simple set of rules that you will play by. You can do this by buying the best poker strategy books over at Amazon. Or you can do it the way we did. And that's by learning from the professionals that already win regularly.

There are a number of guides available online that will teach you how to play to win and if you visit our resource page at www.betting-school.com/pokscalp.html we will tell you which ones are worth their weight in gold.

If you get started today there is absolutely no reason why you couldn't be making an extra thousand or two next month and before you know it you will be a six figure winner.

Online Casino Black Jack

by: Chen Ching-feng

Online casino black jack is said to have originated in France in the early 1700's and has since spread across the world. With the emergence of the internet, virtual blackjack has become one of the most popular casino games played online.

The main reason why online casino black jack is so popular is because mathematically it offers a better chance of winning than online roulette or casino slots.

Computerised blackjack systems have been developed that can dramatically increase your odds of winning. Unlike a slot machine which has no ‘memory', in blackjack the odds are always changing after every hand that is played.

For instance, if a single deck of cards is being used and 4 queens have been produced during previous hands the probability of your being dealt another queen is zero. So blackjack games do have a ‘memory' based on the previous hands...

An Introduction to Gambling Treatments

by: Ryan S. Bombard

Gambling is a form of entertainment for many people, but in some cases gambling can become an addiction leading to financial problems, relationship stress, and even attempted suicide. It is estimated that 6 percent of north america's population will have a gambling problem sometime in there life. Gambling addiction is a serious problem. Pathological addictions to gambling are more common in men then women or specific ethnic groups. Gambling can create a rush when you lose and win, and sometimes the user is unable to control their impulses to gamble. This is when it becomes a problem. There are different degrees of gambling addiction. All of which are treated differently, depending on the specific needs of the addict.

Signs of gambling addictions include, but are not limited to: Constantly thinking/talking about and, or, preparing for gambling sessions, gambling during work or when you are expected at home, getting into debt from gambling and lying to borrow money. Using illegal means to finance gambling and neglecting family or other personal responsibilities. Feeling a need to gamble to relieve stress and or 'escape reality'. Of course, there are also many more signs that could point towards a problem gamble, though gambling addiction is usually blatently obvious.

Treatment programs can range, and are specifically designed according to the addicts needs. Usually the most sucessful therapies combine both professional counselling and user support groups. Medication can be used to combat mood swings, depression and anxiety that addict' may experience during withdrawl. Pyscho and cognitive behaviour therapy is also used, to replace the negative effects of gambling with positive ones, in turn promoting a healthy and positive attitude towards gambling. Group therapy is also good place for user support and feed back.

Gambling Tips

by: Adel Awwad

In order for a player to enjoy a more pleasant and memorable time at a casino, while taking precautions to minimise one’s losses, it is very important to follow a basic set of gambling tips or guidelines.

Understand the game: This may seem like a very obvious rule, but you would be surprised at how many people place bets on games they don’t fully understand. This rule may apply more to certain games (i.e. Roulette) than other games (i.e. Slots), but generally speaking, it is more advantageous for a player to fully understand the rules of a game before betting on it.

Budget your money: Place a limit on the money that you can afford to gamble with and lose. Never exceed that amount or gamble with money that you can’t afford to lose. Leaving your ATM cards and credit cards at home may be a good way to ensure that you won’t be tempted to exceed your budget limit.

Never borrow money to gamble: To fall into the habit of gambling with borrowed money is one of the most serious mistakes any person can make. Not only can one run the risk of falling heavily into debt and perhaps having to sell one’s possessions to payback the borrowed money, but the risk of alienating friends and family members, or infuriating the “money lenders” should be enough reason to avoid this practice at all costs.

Pace yourself: Avoid betting all your money in one go. Remember, the objective is to have fun and enjoy yourself. If your gambling budget is $50, then place bets of $1 or $2 instead of betting the entire $50 on one single bet, losing it and walking away empty handed. As long as the entire sum of money is not lost in one single bet, the player has a chance to win.

Know when to quit: Always quit while you’re ahead. The best time to quit is when you are ahead of the casino. Many players make the mistake of thinking that their streak of luck will last forever and continue to gamble until they eventually lose it all. This is mainly the result of overconfidence and greed.

Chasing losses: "Chasing a loss" is a term used to describe the act of trying to win back money that was lost during a previous bet. The problem with this is that the player stands to lose even more money. In this case, it is better to just accept the loss and quit or continue playing for the sole purpose of just having fun.

Maintain a low profile: Whether you are playing for fun or money, winning or losing, always maintain a low profile at a casino. The main reason for this is that one never knows what types of unsavoury characters may be present at a casino. It is in the best interest of every player not to draw attention to his/her own money or winnings.

Emotional states: Never gamble when you are angry or depressed. Emotional states such as anger and depression usually cloud a person’s judgment and impair his/her ability to play the games properly. A person who is experiencing an intense emotional state usually lacks the ability to think as clearly as someone who is not.

Don’t gamble alone: In some way, it is better to visit a casino with friends or family members if you are planning on gambling. Friends and family members will usually tell you if you are spending too much, drinking too much or not playing properly. In the very least, it is in everyone’s best interest to have a sober person in the group who can safely drive everyone home.

Take frequent breaks: As in any other activity be it reading, writing or playing computer games, one should always take frequent breaks to feel refreshed and alert. Although this may not apply to a person who places a few bets before leaving the casino floor, it does apply to gambler who intends on spending a considerable amount of time betting in a casino.

Have fun: Gambling should be viewed as a fun and exciting recreational activity as opposed to a means of making money. Even though most of us have heard of, or read about the occasional gambler who won the big jackpot that changed his/her life, this is usually not the case for the majority of players. Let’s face it. The glitz and glamour of casinos were not built on the good fortune of winners. Therefore always play for fun and never for the sole purpose of making money.

Avoid alcohol: Never drink and gamble. Not only can alcohol impair one’s judgement, but it can also inflate one’s sense of self confidence to the point where the person gambles away money which he/she would never have gambled if he/she was sober. This is one of the main reasons as to why some casinos offer free alcohol to their players.

Avoid distractions: Distractions can come in many forms from the occasional cellular phone ringing to the sexy girl walking past the table, and one should always be mentally prepared to ignore them in order to better focus on the game. Additionally, the loud sounds and flashing lights of a casino may look and sound very exciting, but they are not there to help you concentrate on the game. Try not to become distracted.

By following these basic set of guidelines, one can enjoy his/her visit to a casino and have plenty of fun while minimizing the risk of falling into any financial difficulties.

Gambling Interesting Facts

Soccerbetting

Is there such thing as "kangtao" or surewin tips?

I have seen alot of people debating over the issues of this "kangtao" or surewin tips. In actual fact there"IS" however very few. But why does it fails us when it is surewin. It is because some of these so called kangtao are "false information" released by the smaller bookmakers themselves to balance their balance sheet. For instance EPL match Arsenal vs Chelsea alot of people taking arsenal resulting in imbalance on the amount wagered on chelsea and these smaller bookmakers with nowhere to dump their excessive bets they will released the so called "kangtao" to entice ignorant punters to bet on chelsea to balance up their balance sheets.

Why are there so many "kangtao" or surewin tips for sales ?

I was bewildered why would any one give away a surewin tips at such low rate where they could earn 10 of thousands with it themselves? put youself in his shoes would you??? i must admit there are opportunites in soccerbetting and i would call that an edge with a "higher chances of winning" but to call them a surewin tips is an overated statement unless you are one of the bribed key players or bribed key officials there is still a certainty of losing.

Live matches

Live matches are often 2 strong team faces each other and they are most likely to be telecast throughout the world. Why? It is because a lot of people likes to bet on sports that they are able to view live especially those recreation punters who gets real kick watching their favourites team play and also big-time soccer punters who bet 30K-50K per match. There is the jalan bet or live betting bet and the half-time bet which make it more interesting and more variety for punters to bet. These live matches are matches where the bookmakers makes lots of money through the vigourish and fixed match. My advise to fresh punters is to bet small betting on live matches and focus more on those non-telecast match. Why? since the non-telecast matches recieved little publicity the bookmakers doesn't mind feeding those new fresh punterse as they knew eventually the money would go back to them as time goes by due to human nature GREED.

How could you tell whether you Bookmaker/runner is trustworthy or dubious?

It is hard to differentiate as it is only by betting over a period of time before you could tell. But common signs includes setting a "high minimum bet" for instance minimum $5k. Unless the person is really someone whom you known for a very long time and you feel you could trust him chances are when you win he is no-where to be found. Common flimsy excuses given includes bookie run away or bookie got arrested. Another common sign is they only open a few matches for punters to bet. Come to think about it if he is really a bookmaker why should he restrict the no. of matches available for bets chances are those are the games he is confident of and would accept all those bets which is opossing him.

Does the bookmaker lose money?

ANS :yes there are times but seldom. Bookmakers lose money when the strong team win throughout the tournamnet eg euro2000 but that is short-term loss. They will continues to win the soccer punters money as long as there are soccer matches. Why? Cause there will be different opionions from different soccer punters just the vigourish/water money alone is able to cover their losses and that is excluding fixed match where they win even more. Another useful tool they are armed with is they understands that all gamblers have a common weakness. They bet bigger and bigger when winning and bets even bigger to chase their loss when losing. In either case it is to the bookmakers edge.

Contary to the belief of many where they think they are winning the bookmakers money , it is the other soccer punters ie, their friend's money whom they are winning. The only way to bust the bookmaker/bookies is not to bet or share part of the pie the bookmaker is having.

Does soccer betting involves luck?

This depends on the " time frame" you set for betting. For instance if you got $5k and you want to turn it in $35k in a "short time frame" of 2 weeks , then i say you requires luck. As asianhandicap is a 50/50 chances of winning it is possible for someone who is new to soccerbetting and is extremly daring and lucky to achieve that. It tooks about 3 bets to win $35k. But on the long run it definitely requires skills and patience as we all knows what goes up will eventually comes down morever lady luck couldn't be smiling on you all days.

Is it important to know all about the soccer team , soccer players statistic n does that makes me a better soccer better?

the answer is No cause soccer betting arena is a place where the booksmakers earns their money if by knowing every details could make you rich then all the soccer writers, soccer magazines editors are the ones who are driving big cars and living in big houses.

Casino

Common tricks and techniques employed by the casinos

Casino are designed in a way that the moment you steps in it makes you feel at home with free food and free drinks some even offer complimentary free rooms to stay. Presently they are aiming those who are in the late 50s or 60s as these people usually are loaded with cash from pension. Their main motive is to entice you to stay longer in casino and bet more thus increasing their chances of winning your money.

what are the games the casinos use to earn big bucks?

(1) jackpot / progressive jackpot

(2) carribbean stud

(3) roullete

(4) sic bo or big/small

Can we beat jackpot ?

Yes. The trick is simple once in a jackpot room do not straight away proceed to play instead walk around the jackpot room and oberserve those machines that are loose machines. Definition of loose machines-are machines that are rigged to pay more often. Where are they located?they are often found at places near the entrance or where there is lots of human traffic where people gets to see other people winning $$. Eg next to the stairs or elevator. Clever move by the casiono management. If you plan to go there often, take note of those machines that pays more often by jotting down the serial no. located on the tip of each machine then walk away and procceeds to next machine. When its your turn to play NOTE LISTEN CAREFULLY TO THE SOUND OF COINS WHEN YOU SLOT IT IN. There are typically 3 scenarios

1st scenario

you slot it in and hear a thud or the coins fipping at the bottom meaning the previous player has won the money and have cash in with the jackpot

required action - leave the machine alone

2nd scenario

you slot it in and hear a faint clink, you slot in the next coin and hear a faint clink again to confirm. The sound will comes to you almost instantaneous as the coins are stacked to the brimmed. This machine is fed almost full its about time the machine vomit the coins in the machine

required action - max bet

3rd scenario

you slot it in and hear a clink sound but not so instantaneous. The longer it takes before you hear the clink sound is the guage you judge to see how full the machine is. The machine is half-fed

required action - you bet small

NOTE: WHEN YOU WON 2-3 JACKPOTS LEAVE THE MACHINES AND WALK AWAY WITH YOUR WINNINGS.

Carribean studd is it for me?

It is a game designed with the intention of winning gamblers money why? you were dealt with 5 cards after viewing your cards you decide whether to increase your stake. When finished viewing your cards you with no pairs will most likely to fold as you got to double your stake if you don't. Note even if you have a good hand like 4 of a kind the banker with no pairs or AKings combination they just pay you the initial stake. That is again to the casinos edge. My overall conclusion for this game is to bet the minimum of the table and enjoys it with other gamblers, this is a definite recreation game if you want to make this game as a game to bring you income i advice you to skip.

Can we make a living by living off on casino?

Ans:Yes you can but it can be very tiring as time is wasted travelling to and fro the casino. Contary to the belief of many whom they believe proffesional gamblers usually bet big to earn big bucks. what pros do is they bet relatively small. Consistency is the key and the most important thing is self discipline so that there is no impulsive bets. They bring a small amount of their original bankroll to bet and if that day turns out not so fine they will go home and to come back another day, they do not bet all in 1 day. It works in the same principal as soccerbetting.

Can blackjack be beaten by the proffessional?
Ans: yes it could , provided that you got a team of members betting at the same table. The most crcucial person are the ones sitting at the last seats. He determines what card the banker is recieving. It is a highly publicised game that by arming with card counting skills you could make a living however now casino has counter that by repeats shuffling and removing the high cards which are the 10,J,Q,K,A from the deck before putting them in the shoes. Another most igenious method currently adopted by the casinos are employing staff which acts as normal gamblers siting at the last seat. By doing so it had made task more difficult for those card counters.

Gambling Interesting Facts

Ans: yes ,you could but not much. What the online casino games does is they usually let you win in the initial stage then as u bet bigger they starts winning all in a streats. Some even starts winning the moment you placed your bets. They usually offers high deposit cash bonus to entice you like depositing $100 give u $300 cash bonus. My personal advice is avoid at all cost.

Can we make money playing online poker games?

Nowdays it is very common to see online poker games on the net offering interactivity between gamblers. It seems fair but be very careful when betting with real money especially those that have high minimum bets ranging from $5-$10. There are hustlers looming round the corner. What they do is they kept increasing the stakes where you have little choice but to follow to see thae next card, unless you got an j pairs or anything higher than that , high chance are you will lose, cause their odds of winning against you is high as you are alone. These apply to games like majong, big 2s.

Tips on playing TaiDi's or Big 2s

These games usually begins with 4 people playing cards with each person dealt with 13 cards. What people normally do is once that they are dealt the cards they start arranging their cards in pairs or in sequence 5 cards. The tips is when dealt with don't arrange your cards 1st instead observe your oppenents and what tactics they are playing in 5 cards or in pairs. Once finished observing then you trained yourself to be able to retrieve cards in your hand and throw when its your turn. This confuse your opponents as they have no idea as whta you are playing in pairs or in 5 cards.

The Fine Print Behind Online Gambling Bonus Offers

by: Mike Hellmer

If you have never opened an account with an online casino, poker room, or sports book you may be wondering if the bonus offers are legitimate. We are all aware of the wisdom in the sayings, “If an offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is” or “There is no such thing as a free lunch”. So what’s the catch? When a casino offers you $100-$1000 in free money should you dismiss it, assuming that there are all sorts of strict requirements, making it too difficult to achieve the pay-out? The quick answer is no. These offers are for real and in most cases the required terms and conditions to receive the pay-out are typically quite easy to achieve. Some are as simple as making small minimum deposit of $50 to $100. Some require, in addition to minimum deposit, a minimum, but achievable, level of play.

How are the online gambling sites able to give away free money and remain in business? The answer is simple. In most cases they get the entire bonus back and more. Casinos live by the odds that all casino games are in their favor and that eventually you’ll lose your original deposit and the bonus. Online poker rooms, on the other hand, get the bonus back by taking a rake (usually 5%) of every pot.

Let’s take a look at the various “free money” offers and the requirements for full cash-out access to the money. The requirements (the catch) are found in the terms and conditions of the bonus offer on the site.

No Deposit Required! Some casinos and poker rooms offer free money without any initial deposit requirements. These offers legitimate and you will be able to play at all the real money tables and slots. The typical catch is that you will need to make at least one deposit before the bonus plus any winnings are released. For example, if you receive a $10 bonus and have $50 in winnings from that bonus, you will have to make a small deposit to your account before the $60 is released for withdrawal.

First Deposit Bonus. To entice you to deposit real money into an online gambling site, a first deposit bonus is almost always offered. The interesting thing is not that they all do it, but the very wide range of bonuses offered. You'll find one online site offering a 10% bonus while one of its competitors offers 200%. All online gambling sites have a maximum bonus limit. So a site that offers a measly 20% bonus could have their maximum bonus set to $200 (deposit $1000) while the site that offers the whopping 200% bonus could have a maximum bonus set to $100 (deposit $50).

Poker Room First Deposit Bonus. The catch for a poker room is that you will have to play a minimum number of raked hands and there may be a time limit. For example, to receive a $50 bonus you may have to play 100 raked hands in 60 days. The raked hand requirement is typically easy to achieve; however some of the very large bonus offers are more difficult. Sometimes these large bonuses are paid in installments. For example, to receive a full $200 bonus the poker room might require 500 raked hands with $20 released every 50 raked hands. If you're new to online poker, don't be discouraged by the number of raked hands required; a typical online table will play 50 to 100 games per hour.

Casino First Deposit Bonus. The catch for an online casino is that you will have to wager a required amount before the bonus is released for cash-out. The typical online casino will deposit the bonus into your account soon after you make your initial deposit. Some deposit bonuses are instantly deposited at the same time as your deposit. Some casinos require that you claim your deposit bonus by filling in a simple form. In this case the bonus may not get credited to your account for 1 to 3 days. Even though the deposit bonus has been credited to your account and you can use it to wager, you will not be able to withdraw the bonus portion until you meet the wagering requirements. The wagering requirements typically state that you must wager 10 to 20 times your deposit plus bonus to release the bonus for cash-out. For example, you deposit $50 and receive a $10 bonus. The casino has a wagering requirement of 10 times your deposit plus bonus, which means that you will have to wager $600 (10 x $60) for the $10 bonus to be released for cash-out.

Sports Book First Deposit Bonus. The catch for an online sports book is that you will have to wager a required amount before the bonus is released for cash-out. The typical online book will deposit the bonus into your account soon after you make your initial deposit. Some deposit bonuses are instantly deposited at the same time as your deposit. Some books require that you claim your deposit bonus by filling in a simple form or sending an email. Even though the deposit bonus has been credited to your account and you can use it to wager, you will not be able to withdraw the bonus portion until you meet the wagering requirements. The wagering requirements typically state that you must wager 3 times your deposit plus bonus to release the bonus for cash-out. For example, you deposit $100 and receive a $20 bonus. The online sports book has a wagering requirement of 3 times your deposit plus bonus, which means that you will have to wager $360 (3 x $120) for the $20 bonus to be released for cash-out.

Reload Bonuses. Reload bonuses are very typical for online sports books, but occasionally you will see them offered in online casinos and poker rooms. The reload bonus simply offers a bonus on deposits made after your initial deposit. The requirements are generally the same as the first deposit bonus requirements.

Before making a deposit at an online gambling site, be sure that you understand the requirements for the bonus to be released for cash-out. You may have to drill down a page or two to get the information. If the bonus requirements seem difficult to achieve then consider another gambling site.

Guide to Gambling Online

by: Sara Senta

http://www.top-ten-internet-gambling-online-casino-sites.com is one of the most comprehensive guides to casinos online. Gambling online is set to become the rage of the future. With more and more people having less time there is a need for an alternative choice.

Like all choices the Internet takes precedence. Consider that there are more than a thousand sites online that feature gambling and casinos as the main selling service. Out of these thousand only a couple of hundred will be legal and safe to play at.

Sure gambling is a risk but it’s a risk taken after careful consideration of the odds. Many site owners know how to reduce your odds of winning and ensure that the house always comes out on top.

This is where you need to learn how to raise the odds. When gambling at an online casino makes sure:

1. The Casino has an established help line.

2. There is a valid phone number provided.

3. Known and recognized forms of payments are accepted.

4. The casinos are based in the US.

5. The payments are made immediately.

Only after these points are considered can you play at the casino with the belief that every win will be fair and every loss a twist of fate! Consider sites that feature casino guides when making your decision e.g. http://www.top-ten-internet-gambling-online-casino-sites.com
